Legislative Advocacy Workshop
This comprehensive program equips attendees with the essential skills and knowledge to effectively advocate for their organizations' legislative goals. Through interactive presentations and expert guidance, participants will learn how to develop persuasive advocacy plans, conduct impactful Capitol visits, and deliver compelling testimony. By mastering these techniques, attendees will gain the confidence and tools necessary to influence policy decisions and drive positive change.

Keys to Effective Advocacy
Using a highly interactive presentation style, the speaker will outline the framework for creating an effective legislative advocacy plan that is based on the numerous factors and influences that can affect how legislators vote on any given issue.

Learning Objectives
Attendees will: 
1. Deepen understanding of, and how to use, the various factors that impact legislators’ decision making.
2. Identify high impact advocacy efforts, best practices for constituent relationship building and how storytelling shapes messages.
3. Identify approaches and develop a strategy to create an effective advocacy plan to accomplish legislative goals.

Capitol Visits/Legislative Testimony 
We’ll outline the do’s and don’ts when making legislative visits and giving testimony as well as how to build off those communications to create long term success. Also covered are five things to always remember about all legislative visits and why legislative hearings are like show business. 

Learning Objectives
Attendees will be able to:
1. Apply the do’s and don’ts of effective legislative visits when preparing organizational leaders for legislative visits.
2. Create effective legislative testimony that avoids mistakes. 
3. Understand the critical role of, and have tips for, following up after all legislative visits and testimony.

Putting it All Together - Elements of Effective Strategies 
Review the elements of, and steps to, creating an effective legislative two-year advocacy plan that includes member involvement, managing the hired lobbyist, and planning a Capitol Day event. 

Learning Objectives
Attendees will be able to: 
1. Create a legislative plan based on a two-year cycle from the end of one legislative session to the end of the next legislative session. 
2. Apply the 9 Rules of Effective Advocacy to any legislative advocacy planning effort.
3. Implement as part of any planning process specific suggestions that will increase member buy-in and involvement.

Recap and questions
Finally, we’ll review program highlights, action plans and other high-level approaches and respond to any additional or clarifying questions.
